What a day. We left our house after work Friday night to attend "its a wing thing" Letterboxing Event. A gathering of Letterboxers to meet and exchange stamp with and to search and seek boxes in the same location. This one was in West Olive, Michigan. We arrived in Grand Rapids around 8pm. We checked into our hotel and immediately went swimming. The kids had a blast. Off to bed and early to rise, or so was the intention. Waking up at 7:30 am and packing up then eating breakfast took much more time than expected. We left the hotel at 9:00am and drove to West Olive. We arrived around 10am. We were not quite sure what to expect.
Upon entering the park we didn't even know where to go to find the event lodge. Luckily we met a nice dog walker who pointed us in the right direction. So we go in and find an empty table and set our stuff down. We found a table with clue packets and an event stamp, We grab a packet and stamp in. Upon returning to our table to get organized we were asked for an exchange by "Grandvilla". We haphazardly succeeded to get through that =). It didn't take long till we got with the program.
The kids were getting antsy so we decided to hit the trails. This is where it goes downhill fast. We get outside and read the clues and have no idea where to even begin, literally. No leads as to which trail to follow. No left or right turns, no go west or east. just vague clues to solve. Which we were having no luck in figuring out. I read them to mean one thing and my hubby (Auroras Chauffeur) read them a whole different way. After following a 3/4 mile trail we came up empty. So we just went back to the Lodge to get more exchanges. The only one there was "Grandvilla". When we told her we didn't have any luck and she so kindly offered to help us out and gave us a starting point. This is exactly what we needed. We hit the trails again and not only found 4 boxes but met up with some boxers from Saginaw. "Condo" and "Rat Tail", who later I found out "cootied" us. What a surprise when I found it hours later, after we got home.
In the end it turned out to be a good time. We received many exchanges and I even got to give my Personal Traveler to 2 people. =)
I am looking forward to when we can do this again. Thanks for the experience. =)
