This had to be one of the best days of the summer. It was pure adult time. Doing my favorite hobby with someone else who 'gets it'! It was sunny and warm (teetering toward hot). It all started at 11:00 am. I picked up my new friend MULLY and we were off to go searching for plastic. First stop was Seven Lakes. I had never been there before even tho it was just a few miles from my childhood home. We found a parking spot and grabbed our stuff and off to the trail head. Some 25 minutes later we had found our first letterbox of the day....Guardian of the Lakes: Dickenson Lake. It had a beautiful mermaid carve inside. What we thought was going to be a continuation of the same trail turned into an oops on my part. We back tracked all the way to where we started instead of just to the previous trail. This ate up some time. Finally get to where we needed to be, we ended up going part way back to Dickenson Lake and took another trail. after about 15 minutes the trail dead ends at a beach. Not much bigger than 6 feet side and maybe 18 inches from trail to water. We turn around according to the clues and Mully gets the 2nd box of the day....Guardian of the Lakes: Big Seven Lake... A beautiful carve of a woman with hair flowing in the breeze. Looking at the box upon discovery we were surprised to see that it looked like someone had set it afire. It was intact just melted. The stamp was inside and still fine. Just the box was damaged. The third box of the series was noted as missing so we didn't even try for it.
Next on our list was the Recreational Park down the street. We had to decipher many puzzles to get this clue information. very tricky indeed. We get where we need to be and off we go again. It took us another 30 minutes to find the third one of the day...Holey. Then upon reading the clues we were surprised to discover that the next box within this park was on an entirely different trail in the park. We drove around and around trying to make some sense of the clue and we did it! After following another trail and deciphering some more clues...Mully found the second box of the series and our Fourth of the day....Hailey. This one was filled with water. The previous finder must have been getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and was in a hurry. Mully to the rescue. She had some paper towels that dried the felt around the stamp and we both tried to dry the stamp pad the best we could. Again, the logbook and stamp were fine, thanks to the fact that they were placed separately in a ziplock bag from the stamp pad. There was a third box of this series we tried to find and we just couldn't figure out where to start. We must have drove around for nearly another 45 minutes to an hour. So we skipped to the next one. Then therewas one at an actual camp site. Within the same park. We were unsure if it would be do-able so we did a drive by and there was no campers in the specific site. So we found that one too. A Weekend away. Great Carve by the way.
By this time we were HOT and hungry. we stopped for lunch and continued on to one that was a night hike. we were going to attempt it in the daylight. YEAH MULLY!!! she found it. Way way way off the trail. I would not have gone for it. I just do not understand why people feel that they have to be so far off of the trail to be hidden.
After that it was off to some easier finds. Mully needed these in her book but I already had them so they would go fast. First on the list was Rose Oaks for Somethin' Fishy, then the cemetery to introduce her to Beebes Phantom. It was nearing 6:00pm by now and there were some more on the list. This time it was OH WOW! then the Sunken Garden. Boy, had that place changed since I had last been there last. I couldn't find my own box! but...Mully DID! =) I moved it to a better place after she logged in. From there it was off to Meet BIG GUY. It was getting dark n the drive there and we were losing light fast. By the time we finished Big Guy it was 10pm. and dark. We did a lot of chatting and a lot of hiking. What a great day. Thanks Mully I couldn't have done it without you! Now when are we going to do it again?
