One was 'The power of one' by Bryce Couretnay. On the cover in a sub-title it said a story of Africa. honestly, I thought "oh, man not another one." I had just finished one that was set on early 1900's in Africa. But, I cannot not read a book offered so...I opened it and read the first two chapters and I was hooked. It was a very fast and good book about a little boy. I would highly recommend it to a friend.
Another one that we read was...Daughter of the Forest (The Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 1) by Juliet Marilier. Again, not something that I ever would have picked up. It is set in soem far off country with Kings and Queens and castles and such. But the story is about so much more that that...Family and fairies, and loyalty. Another recommend read. It starts out slow but once it gets going it is good.
The other Africa book I mentioned earlier was about a little girl that grew up in rural africa and ended up becoming a pilot. It also was about loyalty, but not family loyalty so much as friendship. It was good. a little slow but in the end it was good.
Then there was 'The Pact' by Jodi Picoult. Oh My, Let me start to say that I have heard a lot about her as an author but had never read one of her books. This one had me hooked. I finished it in 2 days. Every time I put it down I could not pick it back up fast enough. It is about two families that are best of friends and thrilled when their kids begin dating. But none of them know just how much their lives will change because of that hook-up.
If you have not read any of her books, try one you just might find a new favorite author. I am now reading one of hers called 'Change of heart'. It is just as good and as I sit here typing this I find myself rushing so that I can get to reading.
Over the recent Holiday I received the book 'Marley and Me' I know, I know, Most of you ohave already read it. But I'm not into reading about dogs. Or so I thought. It was finished in just a few short days also. A very fast read and so not about a dog, but life. truly enjoyable.
I have now hit a dry spell. Whats a reader to do? Start another reading ring. 6 more books will be coming my way the end of January and should go until May! Woo-Hoo. What are you reading?
