spring is coming...

I was out in the garden today and the Hostas are starting to come up. I even noticed some green of what I think is an Iris. If that is so...spring is definitely coming soon. With the weather hitting the 50+ degree mark we have had some family bonding time outdoors.
At Indian Springs Metropark we went Maple Sugaring. The kids got to tap a tree and collect sap. Meanwhile at an outdoor evaporator a bag of previous collected sap was being boiled down to make syrup. This is what we got to sample. It was so good. The kids thought it was the best stuff. After that we went out on the trails and had a nice 2 mile walk. At the Discovery Center we learned about the building being self sustained, 'off the grid' so to say. It uses its own solar power for electricity, and geo-thermal heating and cooling. It had a huge wall of windows and then in the basement was an underwater observatory of the pond outside. We seen a frog that was hibernating and a bluegill swimming around. We missed the Scuba divers that were cleaning the glass by just a few minutes.
The next day I went out and collected 3 of my letterboxes. While checking on them I discoved that they were totally exposed so I picked them up until some leaves grow on the hiding places. It was so nice to be outside. Woo-Hoo!
