What is treasure hiking? Well it is essentially Letterboxing with a larger game in mind. It encourages more boxes on longer hiking distances for points.
Treasure hiking is a fun way to set goal and an incentive to get out there, to those longer boxes.
Guidelines to keep in mind:
One point for each mile hiked while letterboxing, either finding or planting. For example if you were to hike to a box that was 1/2 mile down a trail and hiked a 1/2 mile back to your car that would equal 1 mile and one point.
Michigans start date is May 22, 2009. Any miles hiked before that date do not count. sorry.
Some things to keep in mind;
~Each hike must be at least one mile in length. longer hikes are not rounded up.
~Hikes can only be counted once. If you go to the same box again with a friend the hike doesn't count. (you could plant a box and make it count ;)
~Keep track of Treasure Hiking progress with the AQ widget that Ryan has set up for your 'MY PAGE'.
~Reporting will be on the honor system and in the true spirit of Letterboxing, lets not cheat. You will only be denying yourself the experience of the boxes you haven't found, the miles you haven't hiked, and great locations you haven't visited
~There is a Treasure hiker board for all the information you need under the Hobby Box Heading, on AQ.
When you feel that you have reached a Milestone contact ~Aurora with the following information. Box name, Date Found/Planted, and Point value. The milestone rewards will be at 25, 50 and 100 points. After that is to be determined.
Patches will be at a reasonable cost. They are in the design process now.
Good Luck and Get out there!!!!
