I went to visit a friend on Friday. We arranged to met half way at 7:30. So I went early to look for a few letterboxes. The first one was in Auburn Hills. I had a hard time finding the trail but eventually did. Then I found the box about 15 minutes later. It was a nice walk and a perfect day to box.
The second one was in Rochester Hills, about a 15 minute drive from where I was. Okay, I had the time so off I went. I found the trail easily. The clues were in story form and fun to follow. I got to a clearing in the woods and heard rustling of leaves and stopped behind a tree to see what it was. I was amazed to see a doe step out into the open area. Then my Phone rang, louder and louder while I fumbled in my pocket to grab it. When I said "hello" the deer looked right at me. We watched each other for a few seconds. When I turned and walked on down the trail to talk on the phone the doe began grazing on the grass. It was a neat encounter.
My friend said she would be a few minutes early. Oh Boy, I had better hurry I thought. The clues took me into the woods, along a river, over a bridge and finally to where the box should be. Well, I looked and looked again. But, no box could be found. It was getting late and I had to go. So I went back to the car and left to meet my friend. Wouldn't you know it I got off at the wrong exit and got there about 10 minutes later than I wanted too.
We had dinner, got dessert, talked about everything, and had some laughs. It was so much fun.
In one evening I had found a stamp, went for a nice hike, seen a friend and had a nice dinner and dessert.
The next day I contacted the box owner to say I had found the "a home for Piglet" letterbox, but I did not find the other one. She suggested that I was in fact in the wrong spot. Gasp! Now that means I have to go back. A good thing is is that I can take a shortcut to get back to where I need to be a lot faster than having to do the whole hike again. =) hopefully it will be soon.
